With two runners on base and a strike against her, Sara Tucholsky of Western Oregon University uncorked her best swing and did something she had never done, in high school or college. Her first home run cleared the center-field fence. But it appeared to be the shortest of dreams come true when she missed first base, started back to tag it and collapsed with a knee injury. She crawled back to first but could do no more.

Mite tryout results | | | | | | | | | | | Long Island Girls Empire Team Tryouts Information | | | | by m a posted 04/30/2008
Tryouts will be held at Superior Ice Rink in Kings Park on June 7 & 14 at 640pm-810pm
Players MUST attend at least one tryout in order to be eligible to make the team (it is recommended they attend both we anticipate a large turnout this year)
Players must sign up for the tryouts on-line at www.empirestategames.org there will be no walkups allowed and the signup deadline is June 1st (the computer will not allow anyone access after 6/1/08)
Age requirements
Players MUST be 13 years old by April 30,2008 and no older than 17 by Aug 31,2008, this allows for the younger players not having to be Classified and made eligible to play by there schools athletic directors
Players Must check YES to using ESG buses to get to the games and check NO to not using EGS buses to get home (each player must arrange for their own rides home after the games)
Upon completion of the applications each athlete will be asked to sign the application electronically by typing their name and clicking the I agree box, since each athlete is under 18 years old they must then print the waiver and have a parent sign it and it MUST be brought to the tryout and handed in,
NO player will be allowed on the ice without this waiver, this is also proof that the player correctly completed the application process, because they will not be able to print the waiver without fully completing the application correctly.
Any returning players are asked not to wear any prior ESG uniforms etc to the tryouts, we will be having a few evaluators judging the players and we feel no players should have an unfair advantage

2008-04-17

Brandon Wright (Long Island, Ny) has highest GPA in the country
Purple Eagles recognized nationally for their work in the classroom. Brandon Wright (3.990 GPA) is highest GPA in the nation!
Another day, and another round of national awards for members of the Purple Eagles.
Four members of the Eagles were named to the ACHA All Academic team. This award is given to top student athletes in the ACHA.
The Purple Eagles are proud to announce the following student athletes have reached this elite level of academic success.
Bobby Dornan (Rochester, Ny) JR. GPA 3.340
Eric Reeners (Rochester, Ny) JR GPA 3.650
Jim Kelley (Rochester, Ny SR. Captain 3.89
Brandon Wright (Long Island, Ny) SR. Captain 3.990
Brandon Wright not only had the highest GPA in the ECHL but he also shares the distinction of having the highest GPA in the entire country. That is quite a statement considering there are just under 2000 players who play Division 1 in the ACHA.
Not only are these four players tremendous hockey players, they also are very involved in school organizations as well as helping with administrative duties for the Purple Eagles.
The Purple Eagles also had a record 9 players named to the ECHL All Academic Team.

It has been brought to PAL's attention that another organization has stated that PAL will not be having a Junior B team nor are we in the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League (MJHL). Please know that PAL WILL ABSOLUTELY be having a Junior B team and we are a member in good standing with the MJHL and will once again compete in that league. We are also pleased to say that Aleksey Nikiforov and Jim Wright will be coaching our Junior B team again this year.
It is important to note that there is free player movement for any current 2007/2008 Midget player and these players do not need a release. If you have ANY questions regarding our programs or the direction that PAL is going in, please do not hesitate to contact our Junior Program General Manager Mr. Ron Kinnear. Ron's cell number is 516-680-7642. | | | | | | | | | | | New Bluestreak Newsletter | | | | by PG posted 03/10/2008
